Star Wars Movie Posters… from Russia

September 1st, 2009

I came across this website today that featured U.S. films in foreign-made movie posters. There were some that depicted the movies in a pretty different way then how Americans view them. I’ll just share these ones:

These two movie posters are from Russia and are for the movie Star Wars. This first one features a person on a horse with a cowboy hat on, shooting a gun. I guess it kind of looks outer space-ish with the appliance catalog they made the person with.

This second Star Wars movie poster depicts Darth Vader having light sabers coming out of his robotic head.

Movie posters can be fun to collect from other countries, just because they look different, they can be more entertaining to display. Imagine displaying this in your office and your co-workers come in and ask you what it is. Then you have the pleasure of explaining their origins and maybe have a laugh together.

The first actor to become the infamous James Bond was Sean Connery. Connery starred as the leading man in 6 of the movies: Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, and Diamonds are Forever.

The movies were so popular, that several more were made in the next couple of decades starring different men as Bond. Connery was the original Bond though, so many fans like him the best. The Bond movie posters from the Connery era are hot, classic items. Check some of them out:

Many collectors enjoy searching for their favorite movie posters to add to their collection. Some spend a few hundred dollars to buy posters on-line at a fairly inexpensive price while others are willing to pay top-dollar for a select few. What are these very valuable movie posters that collectors love to spend money on? Surprising, many of the popular, expensive posters come from the beginning of the 20th century.

This poster on the left is of The Mummy, first released in 1932, was sold in 1997 for $535,500 at an auction at Sotheby’s.

This poster on the right of 1931’s Frankenstein, starred the same actor from The Mummy, Boris Karloff. This movie poster sold in 2004 for $189,750.

According to one website, these two posters are considered to be the most valuable movie posters in the world. Boris Karloff must have done something right in his movies to command such devout collectors of his movie posters. Or maybe he was just at the right place in the right time since he was acting during a period when many classic movies were produced.

The average collector only dreams of owning these types of movie posters. To get a taste of top movie posters, many have resorted to buy posters on-line where many great deals can be found. Most of Mike’s Blockbuster Movie Posters are around $14.99. Just because you can’t afford the top-notch movie posters doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the hobby!
